Jeanne Susplugas

Through a multidisciplinary approach (drawing, photography, video, isolated objects, installation) Jeanne Susplugas studies the complexity of the relationship between the individual and the body. The latter evolves, undergoing more or less violent interventions, prompted by the intellect’s subjective impulses. Taking memory into account, the borders between the childhood and the adult world become blurred. The work of the artist, full of candid sensitivity and femininity, is deeply intimate, erotic, sometimes worrying, but never without humor. The mix of styles and techniques, the confusion of scales and the absurdity of situations keep recurring and the message is never univocal. The starting point of one’s interpretation could be based on contradictory concepts such as desire and the disgust, fascination and disorder, sensuality and cruelty, care and destruction, inside and outside, etc. Thus the distinction between reality and fiction become difficult to pin down.
